Sveti Vlas is located at the foot of the Balkan Mountains, on the northern edge of the Nessebar Bay – a unique place where sea and mountain meet. Since ancient times, the area was inhabited by Thracians, and later came under Greek and Roman influence due to its proximity to ancient Mesembria (Nessebar). <\/p>\n\n
In the past, the village was known as Larisa, and later adopted the name of the Christian saint St. Vlasius – the patron saint of sailors and merchants. Over the centuries, Sveti Vlas was part of the Bulgarian, Byzantine and Ottoman states. <\/p>\n\n
The main livelihood of the local population for a long time was fishing, maritime trade and agriculture. Until the middle of the 20th century, it was a small fishing village. <\/p>\n\n
With the development of tourism, Sveti Vlas became a modern resort, and in 2006 it received the status of a city. Today it is known for the yacht port Marina Dinevi, its peaceful atmosphere and the favorable climate, combining sea and mountain air.
